Incognito mode lets you run Atlas searches that aren’t saved to your account history. When incognito is on, your search thread won’t appear in your Briefcase or your search history.

When to use incognito mode

  • You’re exploring a sensitive topic and don’t want it in your history
  • You’re testing Atlas’s capabilities and don’t want test queries cluttering your research history
  • You’re on a shared computer

Turning incognito mode on

Click the ghost icon in the bottom-left corner of the search bar. When it turns active, you’re in incognito mode. The search bar will show a subtle indicator. All searches in that session will be private. Toggle it off to resume saving history normally.
Incognito mode applies to the current search only — it doesn’t retroactively hide previous searches. Searches already in your history stay there.
