Deep Research is Atlas’s long-form research mode. Instead of a single agent answering in seconds, Deep Research dispatches multiple specialized agents that read across hundreds of domains in parallel — UN records, government archives, academic papers, think-tank reports, news wires, and more — then synthesize everything into a single structured brief with full citations. A Deep Research query can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to complete. The output is work that would otherwise take hours of manual research — country dossiers, conflict analyses, policy comparisons, multi-country position summaries, historical deep-dives.

When to use Deep Research

Reach for Deep Research when:
  • You need a comprehensive briefing rather than a quick answer
  • The topic spans multiple actors, timelines, or dimensions
  • You want exhaustive citations from across the open web, not just a handful
  • The query would take you hours of manual research if done by hand
Skip Deep Research (use standard Atlas) for quick lookups, follow-ups inside an existing thread, or anything that can be answered in under 30 seconds of reading.

How it works

  1. You submit a Deep Research query from the Atlas search bar (toggle Deep Research mode).
  2. Atlas plans the research — breaking your query into sub-questions and domains to cover.
  3. Multiple agents run in parallel, each exploring one branch of the research tree.
  4. Results are synthesized, cross-checked, and assembled into a structured brief.
  5. You receive the full report with a table of contents, sections, charts where relevant, and complete source citations.
You can leave the tab — Atlas will notify you when the report is ready, and the final brief is saved to your thread history.
