The Bombay High Court on Tuesday told Maharashtra to modify the lookout circular against Sangram Patil so the U.K.-based doctor and YouTuber can fly back to Britain by May 11.

Why the court stepped in

The practical winner is Patil. The practical loser is the Maharashtra police, which loses the ability to keep a British citizen physically in reach simply because the FIR is pending. The court’s move sits in a wider judicial line that treats passport and travel rights as part of personal liberty.
