About

Overview

VAIMUN, a nonprofit Model UN organization, was founded to enhance understanding and global involvement within youth and young adult populations, fostering an environment of interest and curiosity. A brainchild of five high school students, VAIMUN stands for Veritas Auctoritas Iustitia MUN, which is Latin, translated as Truth, Authority, and Justice MUN. Our mission is to make a difference for the future by fostering and nurturing diplomatic negotiation skills, research skills, an ability to adapt to situations quickly, and much more.

One way that we feel we can empower, inspire, and encourage youth through VAIMUN is by hosting essay competitions.

For our first essay competition, we are looking for current high school students interested in diplomatic negotiations, global affairs, and geopolitics. We invite students to choose between two prompts to respond to:

  1. Research a current global affair, effort, or other international occurrence and write a three-five page written report analyzing the causes of the event, the “who” and their involvement in the event, as well as potential and current effects seen as a result of the event. Be sure to analyze different perspectives of those involved, providing evidence of both claims to further your understanding of the topic. Please avoid any bias or personal belief in this piece.
  2. Write a research paper analyzing a global occurrence with a personal perspective. This should be three-five pages long, and it should include a discussion of the causes of the event, the “who” and their involvement in the event, as well as potential and current effects seen as a result of the event. Highlight the ideas of multiple sides in the event by comparing their ideas and beliefs with your own.

These will be due at 11:59:59 on August 19, 2025.
