About

Honourable Delegates,

We are delighted to invite you to participate in the 12th edition of SiegMUN! Last year, we held our conference online for the very first time with great success and despite not being able to meet in person, the conference allowed for delegates from across the world to come together to address international issues through diplomacy.

Although the outlook for in-person events is slowly improving, we will still be holding the majority of this year’s conference online so as to ensure the safety of our delegates and staff. However, if it is possible, we will be holding one of our committees in person with the necessary measures to ensure a safe experience for everyone involved.

This year’s conference will cover a range of intriguing topics across four exciting committees, namely the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and the United Nations Press Corps (Press).

UNHCR and UNAIDS will be taking place entirely online, whereas our double delegate committee, OPEC as well Press will be taking place in person, if possible. For this to be done safely, 3G rules will be implemented (one must present proof of vaccination, recovery or negative tests), alongside the use of masks and social distancing.

While the situation with regards to COVID-19 is slowly beginning to improve in many countries, the impacts on people’s health, wellbeing and socioeconomic status will continue to be felt for many years to come. The solutions to a global pandemic must be found through international cooperation and action. For this reason, coming together to discuss these issues is paramount.

We believe that Model United Nations provides the ideal platform to foster these qualities in young people by giving them the chance to become more confident in public speaking, research and negotiation. While traditional learning methods have their place, we believe that experiential learning, such as MUN, can make a world of difference for young people preparing to enter the world as politically literate adults.

We therefore invite you all, future and former delegates, faculty advisors, friends to join us at the latest edition of our own conference: SiegMUN 2021 from the 17th - 20th of November.

Yours sincerely,
