GlasMUN 2025

Dear Delegates, Future leaders and Diplomats,

Welcome to the Glasgow Model United Nations (GlasMUN) Conference held at the University of Glasgow’s Main Campus, located in the West End of Scotland’s Largest City. Founded in 1451, as the UK’s fourth oldest University, the University of Glasgow is the home to a long line of illustrious alumni including pioneering Engineer James Watt, the father of Economics Adam Smith, and Scotland’s First First Minister Donald Dewar.

In this unique environment soaked with history, participants will engage in passionate debate and diplomacy, addressing critical global issues such as Climate Change, the Repatriation of Cultural Artefacts, and Pressures on the Nile River Basin. Besides this, delegates can delve into the midst of regime change in Cold War Latin America in our Double Cabinet Crisis, or turn to matters closer to home in discussing Devolution and EU Relations in our trademark Model House of Commons. Throughout all of this, we aim to develop diplomacy, public speaking, and negotiation skills, while fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges of the diplomatic world.

The theme for this year, "Dialogue at a Time of Division", reflects our belief that diplomacy is vital, even in times of unprecedented global division and instability. It is our hope that this is reflected in your actions as you immerse yourself in the conference and use your negotiations skills across our various committees.

Our values at GlasMUN are deeply rooted in collaboration, diplomacy, and understanding. Here at GlasMUN, we believe that diplomacy is at the heart of progress, and through respectful discourse, we can achieve solutions to the issues we face as a global community. We are also proud to be Scotland’s most accessible conference, reflecting our roots as a society that is open to all.

Together, we can help construct a future where dialogue bridges and de-escalates divisions, helping create a more connected and peaceful world.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Are you able to sponsor my Visa to enter to UK?

   Unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor visa applications to enter the UK.  We hope to be able to do this at future GlasMUN conferences.

2.  How old do I have to be to attend the conference?

   Delegates must be at least 17 years old to attend the conference, however, those under 18 will be unable to attend our evening social events. There is no maximum age for the conference, however, we expect delegates to be students at (or recent* graduates from) High School, College or University. We may ask delegates to provide proof of this. *Recent Graduate means graduated within the last two years.

3. Do you have a website?

   Yes, we have a website! (https://www.glasgowmun.org/). Here you can find details about the committees, chairs, and procedures used at GlasMUN 2025, alongside, our schedule. Besides this, our website has accommodation recommendations near the University and essential details about getting around Glasgow.

4. What Procedure does GlasMUN use?

   We use LiMUN procedure at GlasMUN apart from in our trademark House of Commons Committee that uses its own unique procedure. Links to both procedures can be found on our website.

5.  What does the Social Ticket Cover?

   Our Social Ticket grants you entry to our traditional Scottish Ceilidh held on the Friday evening, and our quintessentially Glaswegian Subcrawl on the Saturday evening. We will also have a free Karaoke social on the Sunday evening. 

6. Do I need to submit a Position Paper?

   Position Papers are not mandatory for delegates, however they are strongly encouraged. However, if delegates wish to be considered for an award for their committee, a position paper should be submitted. This should be done through the documents section on MyMUN. If Delegates want to use a position paper template, one can be found on the GlasMUN Society Linktree (see below).

7. I am new to Model UN, do you have any guides?

   Yes, we do! You can find a range of training resources and guides prepared by our Training Officer on our Society Linktree (https://linktr.ee/GlasMUN). This includes Resolution Writing, and Security Council Special Procedure Workshops, as well as guidance on writing Position Papers.
