Hosted by a Top 25 ranked delegation, CONMUN is one of the highest ranked conferences in North America and is proud to invite you to this year's conference taking place April 1-3, 2021!

A top ranked conference, Concordia University is elated to invite the Model United Nations community to their annual CONMUN conference taking place April 1st to 3rd, 2022 in Montréal, Québec, Canada!

Whether you’re a history buff, an experienced delegate looking for a challenge or simply hoping for an opportunity to socialize after nearly two years of confinement, every delegate is bound to find their place at Concordia’s Model United Nations Conference. Take part in our array of General assemblies, Specialized agencies and Crisis committees for a weekend you won’t forget.

Since its inception, CONMUN has prided itself in providing the highest caliber of delegate experience to Model UN aficionados from around the world. Following provincial protocols, the conference will be taking every precaution to ensure each delegate feels safe in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic. In fulfilling this promise, the conference will be hosted in hybrid format; allowing delegates the opportunity to participate in whichever way they feel most comfortable: in-person or online. Our designated equity officer will be accessible throughout the entirety of the event to ensure each guest is accounted for and can make the most out of this model UN experience.

The culture capital of Canada, Montréal has made its mark on the international stage hosting the World’s Fair in 1967, the 1976 summer Olympic Games and has been the backdrop for iconic historical moments such as John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1969 bed-in. More recently, this bilingual city has welcomed millions of tourists for annual events such as the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival and the Canadian Grand Prix. This multicultural mosaic is home to an array of ethnic communities, consequently creating quite the culinary scene favored by late celebrity chef, Anthony Bourdain. Debate the approaches to combating the illicit arms trade as you bite into one of Montreal’s world-renowned bagels or rather, over the province’s specialty dish: the heart-clogging poutine. Spend your evenings strolling along the cobblestoned streets of Old Montréal or wind down from your fun-packed days with a drink on Montreal’s famed terrasses (eighteen year olds and counting, of course).

We hope you will choose our conference hosted April 1st to 3rd, 2022 in Montréal, Quebec as the next destination in your Model UN journey!

We can’t wait to see you there,

The CONMUN team

Gerald Tremblay's Third Term (Crisis)

Topic

More than seventy years have passed since inventor and businessman Joseph-Armand Bombardier’s snowmobile company was created. Now in 2015, this initially family-owned business is a transportation empire. Being one of Quebec’s international prides and a significant employer in the province, the Bombardier family has grown and management involves more than just father and sons. The Board of Directors will have to redirect their course as financial and administrative changes are made. Consequences of the recent downsizing and restructuring lead the company to be scrutinized more than ever by the medias and the investors, which might lead to more backlash, but a business has to survive the end of the quarter. Will these decisions fly with the Quebec people and the governments? How can the company remain true to their roots while expanding internationally

Money Heist (Crisis)

Topic

Heart pounding, fear and anxiety course through your body as you are on your way to the Bank of Spain in a fake military truck. Madrid is in chaos, full of protests, and money is falling from the sky. The most ambitious heist in world history is underway, and you are at its core. After having successfully printed and stolen €984 million from the Royal Mint of Spain in Madrid in a prior heist, the old gang is back for more. This time, though, the heist is different. Under a new plan, the thieves are going to hit the government where it hurts - attempting to steal the foundation of the country’s economy: 90 tonnes of gold in the Bank of Spain. Delegates in this committee will represent the most wanted criminals in Spain, as well as members of the police force trying to catch them. This is not a mere heist; it is war. It is no longer solely about the money: it is about rescuing a fallen member of the gang, it is about love, and, most of all, it is about resistance. “Questo è il fiore del partigiano, o bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao, questo è il fiore del partigiano morto per la libertà” - Bella Ciao

Jamaican Political Upheaval - Labour Party (Joint Crisis)

Topic

Since obtaining its independence from Britain in 1962, Jamaica has been the setting for near constant violence on the streets, often bordering on civil war. However, Michael Manley, son of the leader of the opposition party during most of Jamaica’s independence, Norman Manley, was on a course to put an end to the chaos. He was seen as the figure that would unite the extremely divided country. As everyone awaits the election results on December 15th, 1976, Manley fails to show up to his party rally. His staff members, after investigating his absence, find him dead in the room. The news sends the country once again into turmoil. Delegates in this committee will represent several Jamaican and foreign government officials and will have to put the violence to rest once again. As the country is once again on the verge of a civil war and can be seen as a new front in the ongoing Cold War between the Americans and Soviets, opportunities for political meddling are made clear. New opportunities for unrest and violence present themselves, but delegates will have to set a clear path for the future of the island nation.

Hockey Safety and Inclusivity Committee

Topic

Hockey has been an integral sport since it was first introduced back in 1883 when the first hockey game came to fruition. The sport has evolved through the years as the pace and speed of the game made it increasingly more dangerous. As we have seen, the frequency of injuries and concussions has caused concerns to player safety around the world with irreversible side effects that may remain for a lifetime. This committee’s objective is to find innovative ideas to address the need for player safety around all hockey leagues and federations around the world. Including player safety, hockey should be a sport embraced and encompassed by anyone who wishes to participate regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnic background, or social class. However, acts of racism are still portrayed in the sport on and off the ice. It is important, therefore, to emphasize inclusion in hockey to increase diversification by creating initiatives which could be implemented by the players, coaches, and management as a framework to promote hockey for all. As delegates, you will be tasked with presenting a united front vis-à-vis these issues: how can we make hockey safe and inclusive?
