Foreign Policy

El Salvador's foreign policy centres on economic development, migration management, and maintaining strong ties with the United States (its largest trade partner and host to over two million Salvadoran expatriates). The country is a member of SICA and CAFTA-DR.

El Salvador has shifted its diplomatic posture in recent years, breaking relations with Taiwan in favour of China (2018) and pursuing a more independent stance in regional affairs. Its Bitcoin adoption has created new diplomatic dynamics around financial innovation and sovereignty.

MUN Delegate Guide

As El Salvador, your delegation brings a unique perspective shaped by civil war recovery, gang violence, and innovative (if controversial) economic policies. Use the Chapultepec Accords as a model for UN-brokered peace -- it gives you credibility on peacebuilding.

Coordinate with Central American neighbours through SICA, and with the broader Latin American bloc on development issues. The large diaspora connection to the US gives you leverage on migration discussions.

Be prepared to defend the government's security and economic policies against human rights criticism. Frame gang crackdowns as necessary for citizen security, and Bitcoin adoption as financial innovation for the unbanked.
