Foreign Policy

Kenya's foreign policy blends East-West pragmatism with regional leadership ambitions. The country maintains a strong security partnership with the United States and the United Kingdom, rooted in counter-terrorism cooperation, while simultaneously deepening economic engagement with China (a major infrastructure financier through the Belt and Road Initiative, including the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway).

Regionally, Kenya positions itself as a mediator and stabilizer, playing key roles in South Sudan peace talks, Somali state-building, and DRC peace processes. Kenya's deployment of troops to Haiti as part of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in 2024 signaled broader global security ambitions. The country actively seeks to attract foreign investment and expand trade through the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
