Foreign Policy

Cabo Verde pursues an open, multilateral foreign policy, maintaining strong ties with Portugal, the EU, the United States, and Lusophone nations through the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). It is a member of ECOWAS and the African Union but its island geography gives it a distinct profile.

Praia has positioned itself as a mid-Atlantic hub for connectivity between Africa, Europe, and the Americas. It advocates strongly for the blue economy, climate resilience, and the special needs of small island developing states.

MUN Delegate Guide

As Cabo Verde, be the champion of small island developing states. Push climate change and rising sea levels as existential threats. Advocate for the blue economy, sustainable fisheries, and ocean conservation -- these are your signature issues.

Ally with other SIDS (Pacific Islands, Caribbean states) and the Lusophone bloc (Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, East Timor). In the African Group, highlight Cabo Verde's democratic credentials and good governance record. You are small but well-respected -- use moral authority rather than economic or military weight to influence debates.
