Peacebuilding – Delegation of Sierra Leone
Forum: UN Security Council (open debate simulation)
Topic: Youth Engagement in Post-Conflict Reconstruction
Mr. President, Esteemed Colleagues, Sierra Leone’s own transformation from civil war to stability was significantly powered by youth volunteers rebuilding schools, clearing roads, and facilitating community dialogues.
Today’s youth are not just beneficiaries of peace; they are its architects. We urge the Council to adopt a Youth-Led Peacebuilding Initiative that allocates dedicated funding for youth-driven community projects in post-conflict settings.
This Initiative would mandate youth representation in national peace commissions and fund cross-border mentorship exchanges. Enabling young people to lead will strengthen the roots of durable peace.
Sierra Leone commits to sharing its youth peacebuilding blueprint and calls on fellow Council members to support this Initiative so that all post-conflict societies can harness the power of their youngest citizens.
Thank you.
