Flowing PF Rounds

Flowing is the real-time note-taking system that lets you track every argument across all speeches. Master it and you will never lose track of the debate again.

What Flowing Is and Why It Matters

Flowing is the debate term for taking structured notes during a round. Unlike regular note-taking, a flow tracks the progression of each argument across every speech on a columnar layout. Each column represents a speech (Pro constructive, Con constructive, Pro rebuttal, Con rebuttal, Pro summary, Con summary, etc.), and arguments are written in rows that align horizontally so you can see how each argument was introduced, attacked, defended, and extended throughout the round.

Flowing matters because debates are complex information environments. A standard PF round includes roughly 24 minutes of argumentation across eight speeches and crossfires. Without a flow, you are relying on memory, which means you will forget arguments, miss drops, and fail to track how the debate evolved. Every successful PF debater flows. The question is not whether to flow, but how to flow efficiently.
