Debate Prep as a Team
PF is a partner event, but most teams prepare like individuals who happen to share a case. Learn how to build a genuine partnership that multiplies your competitive effectiveness.
Partnership, Not Coexistence
In Public Forum, you win or lose as a pair. Yet many teams operate as two individuals who write separate parts of the case, sit next to each other in rounds, and occasionally pass notes. This approach leaves enormous value on the table. The best PF teams function as a unit where each partner's strengths compensate for the other's weaknesses and their in-round coordination is seamless.
Effective partnership starts with honest self-assessment. One partner may be a better researcher while the other is a stronger speaker. One may excel at cross-examination while the other is better at big-picture strategy. Rather than both partners trying to do everything equally, divide responsibilities based on genuine strengths. The partner who is better at thinking on their feet should typically give the second rebuttal; the partner with a stronger sense of narrative should deliver the final focus.
