Crisis Sessions

How to handle Security Council emergency sessions where the situation changes in real-time and delegates must respond under pressure.

The Security Council can be convened at any time in response to an emergency. In the real UN, emergency sessions are called when a sudden crisis demands immediate attention: the outbreak of war, a terrorist attack, a humanitarian catastrophe, or a nuclear test. In MUN, crisis sessions simulate this urgency, compressing the Council's decision-making process into hours instead of weeks.

Crisis sessions test different skills than standard committee sessions. Speed matters more than polish. Flexibility matters more than preparation. The situation changes as the session progresses, with new information injected by the crisis director or simulation team. Delegates must read updates, reassess their positions, and respond in real-time. The best crisis delegates are not the best prepared; they are the most adaptable.
