Foreign Policy

Palestine's foreign policy is heavily focused on gaining international recognition and support for its statehood and sovereignty. The Palestinian Authority actively engages with international organizations and countries to advocate for its rights and to seek a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Palestine is a member of various international bodies, including the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and it holds a non-member observer state status at the United Nations, which allows it to participate in General Assembly debates and join international treaties and organizations.

The Palestinian leadership seeks to build alliances with countries that support its aspirations for independence and sovereignty. Many countries in the Global South, as well as some European nations, recognize Palestine as a state. However, Palestine's international relations are complicated by the lack of recognition from key countries like the United States and Israel, which impacts its ability to negotiate peace agreements and secure its territorial claims. The ongoing conflict with Israel remains the central issue in Palestine's foreign policy, with efforts focused on achieving a two-state solution and addressing issues such as borders, security, refugees, and the status of Jerusalem.
