Israel has **reasserted control of the Gaza maritime perimeter** by deporting Spanish-Palestinian activist Saif Abu Keshek and Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila after detaining them for more than a week, according to Israel’s foreign ministry, the rights group Adalah, and France 24. ## What Israel gains

The losers are the activists themselves and the flotilla campaign. The next decision point is whether this episode deters the next flotilla or simply strengthens the campaign’s political profile.
