QUESTION OF: Rohingya persecution in Myanmar

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
Concerned that the persecution of the Rohingya people has intensified over the recent 7 years commencing with the attacks in August 2017 against the Rohingya people including burning villages,
raping and abusing Rohingya women and girls and attacking and killing civilians,
Noting with deep concern that the Myanmar military junta have denied responsibility for the atrocities they have inflicted upon the Rohingya people,
Deeply disturbed that nearly 1 million Rohingya Muslims have been displaced,
Stressing that refugee camps such as Cox’s Bazar are overwhelmed and have a lack of resources,
Alarmed at the damage caused to refugee camps by flash flooding and landslides, affecting more than 21,000 Rohingya refugees,
Expressing continuing support for the civilians and ethnic minorities of Myanmar, including the Rohingya people within Myanmar,
Approving of current UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) humanitarian intervention to deliver emergency relief such as shelter, blankets,
Welcoming ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) help in Myanmar including their 5 Point Plan for Myanmar involving the immediate end to violence, constructive dialogue to seek a peaceful solution and the provision of humanitarian assistance, and fully believing that collaborating UNHRC and ASEAN efforts will result in a peaceful solution for Myanmar,
Recognising that more intervention and aid is needed from the UNHRC,
1. Calls for the leader of Myanmar to cease the persecution of the Rohingya ethnic minority group in compliance with international humanitarian law and to accept responsibility for their crimes;
2. Urges Myanmar to offer full citizenship to the Rohingya people and allow them complete access to basic services including education, health and freedom of movement;
3. Further calls for the creation of sustainable conditions for willing Rohingya refugees to return to Myanmar whilst ensuring the complete protection of human rights for the Rohingya people and other ethnic minorities;
4. Recommends that the Human Rights Council monitors the treatment of the Rohingya people in
Myanmar in order to:
(a) Ensure that the Rohingya ethnic minority group is treated humanely and fairly,
(b) Prevent further acts of violence such as that in 2017;
5. Appeals to the UN Human Rights Council to provide funding for overwhelmed refugee camps
inhabited by the Rohingya ethnic minority group in order to:
(a) Guarantee sufficient aid is received by Rohingya refugees,
(b) Provide for maintenance of refugee camps,
(c) Provide educational resources and facilities for Rohingya children,
(d) Improve the cleanliness of water and sanitation facilities;
6. Instructs the military junta of Myanmar to allow humanitarian aid to all those in need, to lift travel restrictions on humanitarian workers, and to cease the destruction of non-military supplies in order to:
(a) Resolve the food shortages facing the Rohingya in refugee camps,
(b) Ensure essential supplies, including medicine, reaches vulnerable communities, including the Rohingya people.
