Forum: Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) simulation

Topic: Eliminating Gender Gaps in STEM Education

Distinguished Chair, Fellow Representatives, Despite women comprising 48% of the global workforce, they represent only 28% of STEM professionals worldwide.

In Spain, targeted scholarships and mentorship programs have increased female STEM enrollment by 15% over five years, demonstrating that policy interventions work. We believe every girl and woman should have equal opportunity to contribute to scientific and technological advancement.

Spain therefore proposes a “Bridging the STEM Gender Divide” resolution that encourages Member States to establish national STEM-scholarship funds for girls, promote gender-sensitive curricula, and forge partnerships with the private sector for internships. By investing early, we ensure that talented young women can innovate without barriers.

Spain stands ready to co-draft this resolution and to share best practices from our national programs. We invite all delegations to join us in empowering half the world’s talent pool.

Thank you.
