What is Model UN?

Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the United Nations where students represent countries and debate real global issues. Each participant is assigned a country and a committee, and their job is to advocate for that country's interests — not their own opinions.

MUN isn't about winning arguments. It's about diplomacy: finding common ground, building coalitions, and crafting solutions that multiple countries can support. The best delegates don't dominate — they lead by bringing others together.

How a Conference Works

At a conference (typically 2-4 days), you'll:

1. Get assigned a country and a committee (e.g., India in the Security Council)
2. Research your country's real-world position on the committee's topics
3. Write a position paper — a 1-2 page document outlining your country's stance
4. Give speeches in formal debate — usually 60-90 seconds each
5. Negotiate in caucus sessions — this is where the real work happens
6. Draft resolutions — formal proposals for the committee to vote on
7. Vote on resolutions and amendments

The chair (a more experienced student) runs the committee, manages debate, and evaluates delegates for awards.

Why MUN Matters
