Social Media Campaigns

How campaigns use social media platforms for advertising, organizing, fundraising, and direct communication with voters.

From Novelty to Necessity

Social media has evolved from a campaign novelty (Obama's Facebook page in 2008) to the central nervous system of modern campaigns. By the 2020 cycle, campaigns were spending billions on digital advertising, building massive followings, and using platforms as primary communication channels with voters and media alike.

Each platform serves a different function. Twitter/X is for rapid response and press engagement. Facebook and Instagram are for advertising and community building. TikTok reaches younger voters through short-form video. YouTube hosts longer-form content. Email and text messaging, while not technically social media, are integrated into the digital ecosystem for fundraising and mobilization. A modern digital director manages all of these simultaneously.
