Mastering 15-Minute Prep

A systematic approach to preparing a BP case in 15 minutes — from motion analysis to argument allocation.

A 15-Minute Framework

With only 15 minutes, you need a systematic approach. Here is a proven structure:

Minutes 0-3: Motion Analysis

  • What is the core issue? What are the key tensions?
  • If you are OG: what is the fairest, most debatable definition?
  • Who are the stakeholders affected? (individuals, groups, states, institutions)

Minutes 3-10: Argument Generation

  • Brainstorm as many arguments as possible, then select the 2-3 strongest
  • For each argument: what is the claim, the warrant (reasoning), and the impact (why it matters)?
  • Anticipate the strongest opposing argument and prepare a response

Minutes 10-15: Allocation and Practice

  • Decide which arguments each speaker takes
  • If OG: PM takes the definition, model, and strongest argument; DPM takes the second argument and rebuttal
  • Spend the last 2-3 minutes practicing your opening lines out loud
