Dynamic Analysis
Stakeholder maps change over time — how to track shifts in power, interest, and relationships.
Your Map Is Already Out of Date
Stakeholder landscapes are dynamic. Power shifts when leaders change, organizations restructure, or new information emerges. Interest fluctuates as priorities evolve and crises redirect attention. Relationships form and fracture. A stakeholder who was neutral last month may be a fierce opponent today.
Triggers for updating your stakeholder map include: leadership changes (elections, appointments, promotions), policy changes (new regulations, budget decisions), external events (crises, media coverage), project milestones (moving from planning to implementation), and feedback signals (unexpected resistance or support).
Build stakeholder review into your regular project rhythm — monthly at minimum for active projects. Designate team members to 'own' relationships with specific stakeholders and report changes.
