CX for the Affirmative
How the affirmative should use cross-examination to preempt negative arguments, defend solvency, and control the narrative.
The Affirmative's CX Challenge
Affirmative cross-examination faces a different challenge than negative CX. After the first negative constructive, you are responding to attacks rather than initiating them. Your CX must serve dual purposes: undermining the negative's arguments and reinforcing the core of your affirmative case.
Many affirmative teams use CX defensively, just trying to clarify what the negative ran. This is a waste. Your CX should be just as strategic and aggressive as the negative's. The difference is your targets: you are attacking the negative's disadvantages, counterplans, and kritiks rather than harms and solvency.
