Building a Crisis Arc
How to plan a long-term strategy across an entire crisis — from establishing power to executing your endgame.
What Is a Crisis Arc?
A crisis arc is your character's long-term strategy across the entire committee — a coherent narrative that connects your crisis notes, alliances, and directives into a unified plan. The best crisis delegates don't just react to updates; they have a vision for where they want to end up and work backward to figure out how to get there.
Think of it like a three-act structure:
Act 1 — Establish: Build your power base. Send notes that strengthen your resources, gather intelligence, and form key alliances. Don't overextend yet.
Act 2 — Expand: Use your established base to take bigger actions. Consolidate allies, outmaneuver rivals, and position yourself for your endgame.
Act 3 — Execute: Launch your final play. This might be seizing control of a key asset, brokering a decisive peace, or staging a dramatic power move. The best arcs build to a climax that feels earned.
