Awards and Strategy

What chairs actually look for when deciding awards — and the strategies top delegates use to stand out.

Let's be honest: most MUN delegates want to win awards. Here's what chairs actually evaluate.

The Four Pillars

1. Research Quality

  • Do you cite specific resolutions, treaties, statistics?
  • Do you know your country's real position (not just your opinion)?
  • Can you respond to questions with facts, not vague generalities?

2. Speaking Ability

  • Are your speeches structured (not rambling)?
  • Do you speak with confidence and clarity?
  • Do you make specific, substantive points (not just repeat your position)?

3. Negotiation & Coalition-Building

  • Do you actively seek out allies in unmod?
  • Are you a leader in drafting working papers?
  • Can you find compromise between opposing positions?

4. Diplomatic Conduct

  • Do you stay in character (represent your country, not yourself)?
  • Are you respectful to other delegates and the chair?
  • Do you use procedure correctly?
