Samoa was the first Pacific Island nation to gain independence (1962) and has played a leadership role in SIDS diplomacy. It hosted the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States in 2014, which produced the SAMOA Pathway -- a key framework for SIDS development.

Samoa's fa'a Samoa (Samoan way of life) integrates traditional chiefly governance with parliamentary democracy. The country has been a consistent voice for Pacific solidarity and climate action.

MUN Delegate Guide

As Samoa, invoke your status as the first independent Pacific Island state and your SIDS leadership legacy. The SAMOA Pathway bears your name -- use it as a framework for development discussions.

Coordinate with AOSIS, the Pacific Islands Forum, and the G-77. Push for implementation of SIDS commitments, climate adaptation funding, and recognition of non-economic losses from climate change. Your traditional governance system is a unique asset -- share it as a model for integrating indigenous knowledge into development.

Foreign Policy

Samoa's foreign policy emphasizes Pacific solidarity, climate action, and development partnerships. It switched diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China in 2019, securing Chinese infrastructure investment including a controversial port project. Traditional partnerships with New Zealand and Australia remain important, but Samoa has diversified its diplomatic and economic relationships.
