Jordan is a constitutional monarchy that has long served as a stabilizing force in one of the world's most volatile regions. Bordered by Israel, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, it has absorbed massive refugee populations -- first Palestinians, then Iraqis and Syrians -- making it one of the largest per-capita refugee hosts globally.

The Hashemite monarchy holds custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, giving Jordan a unique stake in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Despite limited natural resources and water scarcity, Jordan maintains strong Western alliances and a professional military, receiving significant U.S. aid. It was one of the first Arab states to sign a peace treaty with Israel (1994).

MUN Delegate Guide

As Jordan, position yourself as a voice of moderation and stability. Emphasize your refugee burden and call for international burden-sharing. Leverage your custodianship of Jerusalem's holy sites for diplomatic weight.

On the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, support a two-state solution and defend the status quo at Al-Aqsa/Haram al-Sharif. Coordinate with the Arab Group but maintain your distinct moderate position. Highlight water scarcity and climate vulnerability to build coalitions with small states. Partner closely with the U.S., EU, and Gulf donors on economic issues.

Foreign Policy

Jordan practices pragmatic diplomacy, balancing its peace treaty with Israel, alliance with the United States, and solidarity with the Arab and Muslim world. It prioritizes stability on its borders, refugee burden-sharing, and water security. The custodianship of Jerusalem's holy sites gives the Hashemite dynasty a critical role in any peace process. Jordan is a key counterterrorism partner and hosts coalition forces.
