Foreign Policy

The Dominican Republic maintains close ties with the United States, which is its primary trading partner and home to a large Dominican diaspora. It participates in CAFTA-DR and is an active member of CELAC and SICA (as an associated state).

The country's foreign policy prioritises economic diplomacy, tourism promotion, and managing the complex relationship with Haiti, including border security and migration. The Dominican Republic has served on the UN Security Council and the Human Rights Council.

MUN Delegate Guide

As the Dominican Republic, you represent the Caribbean's largest economy with significant US ties through CAFTA-DR and a large diaspora. Use your economic weight to lead on Caribbean development issues.

The Haiti relationship is your most sensitive bilateral issue. Frame border management as a sovereign right while acknowledging humanitarian obligations. Be prepared for questions about treatment of Haitian migrants -- emphasise the economic burden and call for international burden-sharing.

Coordinate with CARICOM observer partners and Latin American states. Your democratic credentials and economic dynamism give you credibility as a voice for Caribbean development and regional stability.
