Foreign Policy
Cuba's foreign policy is rooted in anti-imperialism, solidarity with developing nations, and opposition to US hegemony. It is a founding member of ALBA (Bolivarian Alliance) alongside Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nicaragua, and maintains close ties with Russia and China.
Cuba's medical diplomacy -- particularly the Henry Reeve Brigade for disaster and epidemic response -- gives it disproportionate influence and goodwill in Latin America, Africa, and the Caribbean. Cuba plays a leading role in the Non-Aligned Movement and G-77, and has hosted Colombian peace negotiations.
MUN Delegate Guide
As Cuba, you are a natural leader of the anti-imperialist and non-aligned caucus. The annual embargo vote is your strongest card -- use it to demonstrate US isolation on this issue and rally solidarity. Almost every country in the General Assembly votes with Cuba on this resolution.
Lead ALBA and coordinate with Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nicaragua on sovereignty and anti-intervention positions. Build bridges with African and Asian states through medical diplomacy -- mention specific programmes and deployments.
Be prepared for human rights criticism from Western states. Respond by highlighting Cuba's healthcare and education achievements, and by pointing to human rights shortcomings in the accusers' own records. Frame the embargo as the primary cause of economic hardship, not the political system.
