Foreign Policy

Antigua and Barbuda's foreign policy is shaped by climate vulnerability, economic development, and Caribbean solidarity. It is a member of CARICOM, the OECS (Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States), and the Commonwealth. The country has championed debt relief for climate-vulnerable nations and the establishment of a loss-and-damage fund.

Antigua and Barbuda maintains diplomatic relations with both the US and China, and has been a strong advocate for the interests of SIDS in the UN General Assembly.

MUN Delegate Guide

As Antigua and Barbuda, your voice carries moral weight on climate change far beyond your size. Use the devastation of Hurricane Irma as a powerful narrative -- Barbuda was 95% destroyed. You have been a leading voice in AOSIS and the push for 1.5 degrees.

Build tight coalitions with other Caribbean and Pacific island states. In the General Assembly, remember that every state gets one vote -- small island states collectively command significant voting power. Coordinate through CARICOM and AOSIS to amplify your positions.

Focus on climate finance, loss and damage, debt relief, and ocean governance. Frame climate change as an existential security threat, not just an environmental issue.
